Extermination camps in Treblinka near Warsaw were the second biggest camps established by Nazi Germany on Polish territories during the World War II, alongside with Auschwitz-Birkenau. The camps operated between 1942 and 1943. It is estimated that from 7 000 up to 9 000 Jews were killed in gas chambers in Treblinka extermination camp. Construction of the camps was part of the “Reinhardt” action. Germans were sending Jews from Polish ghettos (including Warsaw ghetto) there forcing them to work in inhumane conditions.
Although Jews in Treblinka managed to create a plotting inside the camps, only around 400 of them somehow escaped the place.
Death camps in Treblinka are widely recognized as extremely important landmark of Jewish history in Poland. They commemorate one of the most horrifying phenomenon in the world’s history – the Holocaust. See it yourself during our Treblinka death camps tour.
